Bongo Beat: A Night of a Thousand Stars discusses the gala premier party for Futurama.

The Homer Show cover is, of course, a parody of The Truman Show, the 1998 Jim Carrey movie.

Simpsons Comics #42 Back Cover Classics Illustrated #49

The Classics Illustrative cover is a parody of Classics Illustrated.   Slobberwacky is itself a parody of Jabberwocky, a poem by Lewis Carroll, originally featured in "Through The Looking-Glass, and What Alice Found There", and it closely follows the original verse by verse. It is no coincidence then that the No. 49 on this cover was selected to correspond to the original Classics Illustrated #49 from July 1948 which was Alice in Wonderland, with the role of the Chesire Cat being represented by our very own Snowball II replete with a mischievous grin. Perhaps we could carry the analogy further, with the blond Alice being represented here by the blond Bart, and "The World's Greatest Authors" represented by the writers at Bongo comics?

Simpsons Comics #43  (Jun 1999)

Everybody knows one, has told one or knows someone that knows someone that one actually happened to. We're talking about urban legends, of course, and the city of Springfield has plenty of them. Take for instance, the story of Brain Freeze Steve, the kid whose head exploded (supposedly) when he drank a squishee with two straws. Rumor has it, he still haunts the Kwik-E-Mart to this very day. But how do you find out the truth, when the store never closes?

Bongo Beat: Tour de Farce by Bill Morrison discusses Bongo Comics trip to Germany, where Simpsons Comics is the #2 most popular comic book and where they sell more Simpsons Comics than anywhere else!

Poochie back cover pretends to steal every known entertainment pop expression;
(Many of these ironically did not originate with the characters noted below!)
"Ah pities the fool" - Mr. T,
"Kiss mah grits!" - Florence, Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore
"Cowabunga, dudes!" - Bart Simpson, The Simpsons
"eyyyyy!!!" - Fonzie, Happy Days
"I'm going complete mental, I must say" - x, Saturday Night Live
"I know you am, but what am I?" - Pee Wee Herman?
"Smashing Baby, Yeah!" - Austin Powers
"Ex-cellent" - Montgomery Burns, The Simpsons
"Excuuuuuuuse Me!" - Steve Martin, Saturday Night Live
"Sock It To Me!" - multiple, Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In
"What'choo talkin' 'bout?" - Garry Coleman, Different Strokes
"Don't have a cow, man!" - Bart Simpson, The Simpsons

Which is responded to by; "Come back here, dog-boy!"
"Yeah, as a member of the Legion of Lawyers, we have a few bones to pick with you!"
To which Poochie thinks to himself;
"...Hmmm...come back here, dog-boy! Mama mia! At'sa spicy Catch'a-phrase!!!"
Bottom of page has "As see on TV's Itchy and Scratchy and Poochie Show!!!" and
"Can you identify all of Poochie's purloined catch-phrases? If so, the Legion of Lawyers would like to speak to you, too!"
