This cover first appeared as the cover of The New York Times Book Review on June 2, 2002. On the original Homer's book has Summer Reading (instead of Famous Hammocks) and the wider format allowed Santa's Little Helper to appear on the right sleeping in the grass.

Jason Ho and Mike Rote promoted from Production Assistants to Staff Artists.

Bongo Beat discusses the history and tenth anniversary of Bongo Comics.

In the Simpsons Comics Supernova reprint the story Lisa Simpson's Book Club appears but is missing from the Table of Contents, substituted with the story The Duffman Cometh! from Simpsons Comics #104 (which is missing from the reprint).

In the Simpsons Comics Supernova reprint within the story Lisa Simpson's Book Club the first subtitle of that story is changed from Rhyme of the Middle-Aged Mariner to Rime of the Middle-Aged Mariner to match the original classic poem title Rime of the Ancient Mariner.... which us Stuyvesantians had to memorize.

Simpsons Comics #87 Simpsons Comics #87  (Oct 2003)

In the "Futurama/Simpsons Infinitely Secret Crossover Crisis" the whole Planet Express is transported into a "classic" issue of Simpsons Comics that didn't actually exist, so we at Bongo thought that we had better get around to creating that issue sometime in the next thousand years so that Fry and the gang don't get zapped into a void, or possibly an Archie comic! So, presented again for the first time "Hail to the Cat!" is the story of how one political animal takes on city hall and wins. However, when Snowball II becomes mayor, Springfield gets a crash course in history repeating itself. It's the deja vu comic of the year!

The Simpsons Futurama Crossover Crisis  (book)

Who's Who in the New Revolutionary War? maps out the English characters on page 19 of the comic, i.e., Harry Potter, David Beckham, Minister of Silly Walks (John Cleese), Elton John, Arnold Rimmer from "Red Dwarf" (Chris Barrie), Prince Charles, Dr. Who (Tom Baker), Ringo Starr, Mr. John Steed (Patrick Macnee), Mrs. Emma Peel (Diana Rigg), Keith Richards, Posh Spice, Baby Spice, Scary Spice, Sporty Spice, Ginger Spice, Johnny Rotten and Russ Abbott. Wonderful rendering, except for Mrs. Emma Peel. We demand a redraw!

The cover design reverts back to the prior Simpsons Comics cover design for this one issue (but without the character icon), last used with Simpsons Comics #74. This was done because over a year earlier in August 2002 this cover appears thrice in the story Somewhere Over The Brain-bow! (also by Ian Boothby) in Futurama Simpsons Infinitely Secret Crossover Crisis #1 being read by Fry as a "Radical Retro Reprint" before the cover design had changed. The first two pages of that story where they show you the story Fry is reading are identical to the first two pages of this story.

Futurama Simpsons Infinitely Secret Crossover Crisis #1 Page 03 Futurama Simpsons Infinitely Secret Crossover Crisis #1 Page 04 Futurama Simpsons Infinitely Secret Crossover Crisis #1 Page 11

Note that the last panel above is not the "Radical Retro Reprint" but an original copy of this issue. Subsequently in Simpsons Comics #186 in the section titled Seven Questions (more or less) with Ian Boothby he would say that Hail to the Cat in this issue was one of his favorite stories, noting that is was not originally planned to turn this fictional story and comic within Futurama Simpsons Infinitely Secret Crossover Crisis #1 into a real comic. This cover was also illustrated in Simpsons Futurama Infinitely Secret Crossover Crisis II #1.

Taking it to an extreme, we'll note that the back cover from the story didn't match the real back cover. Lastly, there's a view of the inside of the comic (beyond the first two pages) and alas it also doesn't match any panels inside the .. "real" comic.

Simpsons Comics #88 Simpsons Comics #88  (Nov 2003)
   Plaid to the Bone!

The Simpsons head for shores of Scotland with Groundskeeper Willie in tow, but it is not a happy homecoming for Springfield's favorite Scot. It's a bonnie tale of brothers locked in a lifelong feud, the long lost lassie they loved, and a legendary groundskeeping tournament that they hope will settle each others haggis once and for all! The bagpipes of Scotland will sound a mighty and annoying song for the one brother left standing
